Microsoft is designing software to allow parents to remotely set restrictions including use overnight, or set a phone so it can only call parents, a “white list” of contacts and emergency numbers. This type of “lock screen” can be kept in place for a certain time period, depending on the controlling party.

And a new Android device allows parents to see which apps are being used on their kids’ devices, as well as clamping down on how much time kids can spend using any particular software. You can introduce even more structure into your kids’ computer time by blocking access to certain apps, or putting time limits on how long any particular app can be used.
