Researchers from Mount St Vincent University in Canada did a study using the game Concentration, where the identity and location of pairs of cards need to be remembered and found that the subjects who were given supplies so that they could to take notes performed significantly worse than those who did not take notes, giving weight to the theory that the brain ‘intentionally forgets’ information it believes to be stored safely elsewhere.
